Went on a four hour hike around the Quabbin Reservoir on a rainy Saturday. Had a lot of fun exploring the area, observing wildlife, and taking plenty of bokeh photos thanks to the beautiful lighting.

There’s a particular field in North Amherst that becomes spectacularly illuminated with fireflies for a brief period of time in early summer. I was lucky enough to experience this on Friday night with Calvin, my partner and the one who happened upon this spot several year ago, and we enjoyed the flickering fireflies and stars.

Through the Trees & Telephone Wires
Action shots of Red-tailed Hawks in flight. Tree branches and sharp lines add an interesting element to the frame, and I love the challenge of keeping my camera focused on a moving subject when it flies behind obstacles.

First Encounters
I vividly remember the first time I ever photographed a Red-tailed Hawk. It was August of 2015, the summer before my senior year of college, and I was driving home from work on a back-road. I was only in my car for a couple minutes when this MASSIVE hawk flew in front of me and perched on a short post. I didn’t even bother pulling over- just parked in the middle of the road, grabbed my camera, and started tip-toeing towards the hawk. Didn’t want to spook it. I was so transfixed by the beauty and size of this raptor. He flew away after about 10 fleeting minutes of photography, observation, and awe; and I instantly craved more.
